What we consider
- Use, wear, moisture and cleaning needs for each surface
- Colour, texture, scale and the relationship between adjacent finishes
- Availability, maintenance expectations and the agreed budget

MATERIALS & FINISHES↗Coordinate surfaces, colours, textures and finishes into a considered overall palette.
Every project is considered in context: how the space will be used, how people move through it, the materials and finishes that suit it, and the details that make the result feel cohesive.
A coordinated material palette brings consistency to an interior. Surfaces, colours, textures and hardware are considered together, with attention to appearance, maintenance and intended use.
Colour palette development, flooring and wall finish direction, laminates and veneers, countertop options, hardware coordination and finish schedules where included in scope.
Thoughtful interior material selection supports coordinated interior finishes and interior colour consultation, including laminate and veneer selection, flooring design and an overall interior material palette.
Most interior budgets are spent on materials, and most regrets come from choosing them without enough information. A laminate that chips at the edges, a floor that stains easily or a paint that peels in the monsoon can undo good design. Material and finish selection is the process of choosing surfaces thoughtfully, balancing appearance, durability, maintenance and budget.
Aatish Joshi guides clients through these choices with a focus on how each material will behave in daily life, not only how it looks on a sample board.
A small sample cannot show how a large wall will look, how a polished floor reflects light or how a finish will age over time. We encourage looking at materials in the actual lighting of the space, comparing them against each other and, where possible, seeing larger installed examples. Decisions are easier when the palette is viewed as a whole rather than one item at a time.
Kitchens need heat, stain and moisture resistance. Bedrooms can use warmer, softer textures. Living rooms are a place for feature walls and statement finishes. Entrances and passages need hard-wearing surfaces. Matching the material to the demands of each room avoids both overspending and premature wear.
Humidity during the monsoon, strong summer heat and dust all affect finishes. Boards used near moisture should be suitable for it, paints should be chosen for the exposure and hardware should resist corrosion. We keep these local conditions in mind while selecting materials, and we discuss care and maintenance so that clients know what to expect.
Spending more does not always give better results. Sometimes a mid-range material with better detailing outperforms an expensive one used carelessly. We help allocate budget where it is most visible and most important, such as high-touch surfaces and structural storage, and economise where the impact is lower.
Once the palette is chosen, we prepare a clear list of materials and specifications so that vendors and trades work to the same reference. This reduces substitutions, mismatches and delays, and makes it easier to compare quotations fairly.
Bring your floor plan, photographs and any materials you have already liked, and we can begin building a palette that suits the space.

VIEW ALL SERVICES ↗This guide explains how material & finish selection works with Aatish Joshi, from the first conversation to the final handover, so you know what you will receive and what decisions come when.
This service is meant for clients who feel overwhelmed by laminates, tiles, stone, paint and hardware choices. Every space has its own constraints, whether a fixed floor plan, a tight budget, a family routine or a business workflow, and good design begins by respecting them. With 18 years of experience across homes, offices and commercial spaces, the studio focuses on solutions that look refined and still work on an ordinary Tuesday.
The exact deliverables are confirmed in writing after the brief, so scope and responsibilities are clear on both sides.
Good planning prevents most expensive surprises. Decisions on layout, services, storage and finishes are best made before site work starts, because changing them later costs both time and money. Where choices have budget impact, options are explained so you can decide with full information.
No two projects are the same, so fees, timelines and execution responsibilities are agreed according to the project brief rather than a fixed package. Seeing the design in drawings or 3D first also helps families and teams agree early.
Share your property type, rough area, location and what you want from the space. A first conversation on WhatsApp or through the contact page is enough to begin.
It depends on the size, the scope and how quickly decisions are made. Timelines are discussed and agreed once the brief and scope are clear.
Yes. The budget range is discussed at the start so that layouts, materials and finishes are chosen with it in mind, and trade-offs are explained openly.
Yes. Plans, material choices and, where needed, 3D visuals are reviewed with you before anything is executed on site.
